Sing is the title of this new production that is directed and written by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Son of Rambow) with the original voices of some international actors like Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Seth Macfarlane.
Sing is both an animated and musical feature film that has been described for production as research of star we all have inside. Sing is set in a world like us, but the main character, Buster Moon (in the voice of Matthew McConaughey), is a koala that is the head of once was one of the most important theaters in the city. Despite his optimism, things don’t work well, so he gets the idea to make a singing competition.
With auditions, in the best style of American Idol and according we can prove in the first trailer, are chosen five contestants: the little mouse called Mike (MacFarlane); Meena (Kelly), a timid teenage elephant who suffers of stage fright; Rosita (Witherspoon), a responsible mother of 25 piglets; Johnny (Egerton), a young gangster gorilla that wants to break the old practices of his family and Ash (Johansson), a punk-rock porcupine that wants to star a solo music career. All of them see the competition as the best way to change their lives. On the other hand, Buster is going to discover the theater is not the only thing that needs to be saved.
The first trailer (3 minutes of running time) has been released together to synopsis and a set of images with actors and their characters. Sing covers more than 65 hit songs from classics and most recent pop hits.
The original idea of this movie where animals are singing was by producer Chris Meledandri, co-founder of Illumination Entertainment, around 2011 when he shared with director and writer of the movie a picture of a group of four koalas and asked him to imagine those animals taking a microphones. As simple as that!
Movie will be on theaters next December 21st.
