The new feature film by director of the acclaimed “Boyhood” will be premiered at The 54th New York Film Festival before its release in US theaters next November.

Last Flag Flying is a novel that writer Darryl Ponicsa wrote (in 2005) as a continuation of his first debut novel “The Last Detail” (1970), that was adapted into a film, two years later, by Hals Ashby and starring Jack Nicholson which he won his first Palme d’Or and his third Oscar Award.

The book was a review about war and all its contradictions it has with a drama-comedy tone. Injustice, no sense of war and top decisions under pressure in the middle of Vietnam war. Bill “Bad-ass” and “Mule” Mulhall are two officials who must fulfill the mission to carry to another marine at New Hampshire prison after having been sentenced to 8 years, but during the travel, they discover that it is an exaggerated sentence. Light from justice and the same time the duty of their mission they want to find a way to help him.

Duo of actors in the adaptation were in charge of Jack Nicholson as Billy “Bad-ass” Buddusky and Otis Young as Richard “Mule Mulhall, who also made a memorable role.

New story follows by Ponicsan is settled in the 2003 invasion of Iraq after 11S and takes the same elements that became famous his debut book. The adaptation of this book was written by Richard Linklater and the same author. There, we know three veterans ready to fulfill a sacred mission: Bury the only son of Doc (Steve Carell), who was killed in the first steps of this invasion. Together Sal (Bryan Cranston) and Mueller (Laurence Fishburne), take us into a trip that is a perfect mirror of political environment in Bush-era, the values and fears of the average US citizens as well the true friendship.

The selection fo this film at The New York Film Fest was justified by telling that Last Flag Flying is “infectiously funny, quietly shattering, celebratory, mournful, meditative, intimate, expansive, vastly entertaining, and all-American in the very best sense..”.

Last Flag Flying produced and distributed by Amazon Studios will premiere next September 28th and will open in theaters starting from November 17th, right in the middle of Awards Season.

Until now, this is the only image known from this production.
