Gems section in this edition includes 12 films from the most recent and exquisite cinema worldwide. Elle, I’m not your Negro and The Handmaiden make part of the most select of this international industry in 2016.

This way, Gems Section is one of the most relevant official competitions at the film festival whose organization has said about selection that “the films will dazzle the audience with their exceptional artistic merit and the clarity with which they examine history, tradition and contemporary society”.

Well-known Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul will receive a Tribute from FICCI



The 57th Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival (FICCI) that will take place from 1st to 6th of March 2017 has just confirmed the presence of the well-known director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the greatest exponent from Thai Cinema this moment.

FICCI 2017 will pay a special tribute to this Asian Master where it will be exhibited seven features films, three shorts, an installation and will give a master class.

Wes Anderson is offering to you a character in his next animated film Isle of Dogs



The director of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Darjeeling Limited is working in his next movie and is doing an ingenious crowdfunding campaign.

In reality, it is a contest with a worthy cause. Through an online platform,  people call for funds not for personal projects, but charitable causes and social projects. Wes Anderson joins to other artists that support this initiative like Sean Penn, Kristen Bell and Jonah Hill.

BAFTA Awards 2017 nominations. La La Land leads Film Awards Nominations



La La Land follows unstoppable. This morning the musical by Damien Chazelle has been nominated in 11 categories at BAFTA, the British Awards.

 

This musical just two days ago was the huge winner at the Golden Globes where it got all the prizes it had been nominated and made history to become the most awarded film of all times for these awards. At BAFTA Awards which are given by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts La La Land has nominations for: Best Film, Director, Actor and Actress, Original Screenplay, Edition, Design of Production, Cinematography, Original Musical, Costume Design and Sound.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continues as the preferred option in theaters – Review

Deadpool, the most searched movie in Google during 2016 – Top 10 Film Ranking



Today is the second day of 2017 and there is still a lot of film rankings to mention. One of those come from Google Trends that during the last years shows the most searched keywords in different categories like people, news, events, films, among others.

Talking about cinema, the film of the irreverent Marvel superhero Deadpool appears as the most searched movie worldwide during 2016 in this search engine. The comic and comedy adaptation was catapulted at the first position of this ranking thanks to Mexican audience who were the moviegoers that searched more information about this successful production. Other Latin American countries joined to this trend like El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Today in a ceremony in Strasbourg the co-production Toni Erdmann received the 2016 Lux Film Prize.

 

President of European Parliament, Martin Schulz, announced the winner of this important recognition, which is given since 2007 and is voted for all parliamentarians.

5 Latin Americans are nominated at 2016 Independent Spirit Awards



Latin American Cinema has a good representation at 2016 Independent Spirit Awards where 5 artists have been nominated.

 

Directors Michel Franco (Mexico) and Pablo Larrain (Chile) compete with their productions in the category of Best Film. Besides, Brazilian Kleber Mendonça Filho appears in the category of Best International Film, Sebastián Sepúlveda has been nominated for Best Edition (Jackie) and so talent actress Paulina García is on the list of Best Support Actress for her first international project “Little Men”.

2016 Film Awards Season Begins. Four singular male stories dominate Gotham Awards Nominations



2016 Awards Season begins. It is just around the corner. Gotham Awards opens this new Film Awards Season next November 28th in New York.

 

Gotham Awards celebrates, essentially, the Best Independent US productions for cinema and television, and they are given by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), a non-profit organisation founded since 1979 that has a series of programs destined to support independent filmmakers and being a bridge between this industry and the audience.
