La La Land follows unstoppable. This morning the musical by Damien Chazelle has been nominated in 11 categories at BAFTA, the British Awards.

This musical just two days ago was the huge winner at the Golden Globes where it got all the prizes it had been nominated and made history to become the most awarded film of all times for these awards. At BAFTA Awards which are given by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts La La Land has nominations for: Best Film, Director, Actor and Actress, Original Screenplay, Edition, Design of Production, Cinematography, Original Musical, Costume Design and Sound.

La La Land is followed by Arrival and Nocturnal Animals by Tom Ford, a movie that continues its buzz and got the same nominations of sci-fi production by Denis Villeneuve with 9 nominations each one of them. Both films are staring Amy Adams.

If Golden Globes had the surprise of “Deadpool” (Read the film review) as one of the nominees, in BAFTA we have to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the adaptation of J.K Rowling’s novel which was directed by David Yates. The Harry Potter’s prequel has gotten FIVE nominations together to well-known movies during this Award Season like Lion and Hacksaw Ridge, the war story directed by actor Mel Gibson. (You can interested in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Review).

For the intense competition for Best Film Not In The English Language veteran Spanish director, Pedro Almodóvar, got a nomination with his latest film Julieta. The other contenders are: Mustang, Toni Erdmann, Dheepan and The Son of Saul, which was the Oscar Winner in 2016. In the past, Pedro Almodóvar has been nominated at BAFTA for his films Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, Volver, Broken Embraces, The Skin I Live In and All About My Mother which he won two prizes: Best Foreign Language and Best Director. (Also read: Toni Erdmann wins Lux Award, a recognition given by European Parliament).

British audience can vote for EE Rising Award Winner among Any Taylor-Joy, Laia Costa, Lucas Hedges, Ruth Negga and Tom Holland.

The 70th BAFTA Ceremony will be held on 12 February 2017 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
