Awards Season Calendar 2017-2018 (First dates confirmed)

We are in Summer Season just right now, the time for blockbusters until the end of August. After that all movies that are behind some Film Awards begin to be exhibited in movie theaters.

So, we have here the Awards Season Calendar 2017-2018 (dates confirmed until now):

British Independent Film Awards – BIFA

  • Date: December 10th, 2017

Don’t confuse with BAFTA, the so-called British Oscars. The British Independent Film Awards reward the best independent productions and its talent in the UK.

Founded by Elliot Grove and Suzanne Ballantyne since 1998, this year will be included nine new categories to craft and technical disciplines exclusively: Best Casting, Cinematography, Costume Design, Editing, Effects, Make-Up & Hair Design, Music, Production Design and Sound.

The submission for British feature and short films and International feature films is open now. Nominations will be announced first days in November.

Boston Society of Film Critics

  • Date: December 10th, 2017

The Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC) was founded in 1981 and it has 25 members right now. They celebrate the best films of the year as well filmmakers, the local film theaters and film societies that offer outstanding film programming.

The 2017 Film Awards Ceremony has been set for next December 10th, 2017.

National Board of Review

  • Date: January 4th, 2018

National Board of Review was, in real words, a censorship organization, but now it is more than that, and it is dedicated to support all kind of productions: art and entertainment. The film organization located in New York was founded in 1909 and its first Annual Film Awards was celebrated in 1929.

This year, they will announce the nominees on November 28th and ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 4th, 2018 with Willie Geist as a host.

Golden Globe Awards

  • Date: January 7th, 2018

The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards Ceremony is set for Sunday, January 7th, 2018. The submission will be open next July 10th until October 31st, 2017. The announcement of nominations will be on December 11th at 8:00 am/ET.

For this year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has set some little changes in its submission process. Among them, the best animated motion picture and best foreign language awards now can recognize the possibility of multiple directors receiving the prizes. Besides, the foreign film needs to have an official screening date scheduled before submitting.

Categories (for motion pictures): Best Motion Picture Drama and Musical or Comedy, Director, Actor and Actress in Drama and Comedy or Musical, Supporting Actor and Actress, Screenplay, Original Score, Original Song, Foreign Language, Animated Feature Film, Lifetime Achievement.

Producers Guild Awards

  • Date: January 20th, 2018

The Producers Guild Awards (PGA) celebrates the finest producer works of the year since 1990, when the organization decided to become in one of the bellwether of Awards Season.

The 29th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be held next January 20th, 2018.

Categories (for motion pictures): Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Picture, Animated Motion Picture, Documentary Theatrical Motion Pic.

Screen Actors Guild Awards – SAG

  • Date: January 21st, 2018

Given by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, it is one of the most followed Awards worldwide. Its mission is to recognize the excellence in film and television since 1995.

Next July 10th, the submission will be open and nominations will be announced on December 13th.

Categories (for motion picture): Outstanding Performance by a Female and Male Actor in a Leading Role, Female and Male Actor in Supporting Role, Cast in a Motion Picture and Stunt Ensemble, Life Achievement.

Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association – GALECA

  • Date: January 31st, 2017

Founded in 2009, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association celebrates the finest in film and television in different categories from LGBTQ-centric regularly. Different from other film awards, GALECA gives prizes in unusual categories like “Visually Striking Film of the Year” and “Unsung TV Show of the Year”.

The nominees will be announced next January 10th and the ceremony will be held on January 31st, 2017.

Categories (for motion pictures): Film of the year (film or TV), Film Performance of the Year Actor and Actress, LGBTQ Film of the Year, Foreign Language, Screenplay, Documentary, Visually Striking Film of the Year, Unsung Film, Campy, Rising Star, Wilde Wit of the year (hon), Wilde Artist of the Year (hon), Timeless Star.

Directors Guild Awards

  • Date: February 3rd, 2018

One of the organizations with more tradition was founded in 1936 and was considered as precursor to the Academy Awards. Besides, it is believed it has some influence on Best Director Academy Award every year.

The 70th Annual DGA Awards will take place on February 3rd, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Feature Films nominees will be announced next January 11th, 2018.

Categories: Feature Film Director, First-Time Feature Film Director and Documentary Director.

BAFTA Awards

  • Date: February 18th, 2018

The first award ceremony was on May 29th, 1949, the British Academy Film Awards celebrates the art forms of the moving images as film as television. Besides the awards, has an international programme of learning events as workshops masterclasses, lectures and so on during the whole year.

The ceremony that takes places always at the Royal Opera House has been set for February 18th, 2018. The nominations announcement has not been set yet.

Academy Awards

  • Date: March 4th 2018

The 90th Academy Awards will have to Jimmy Kimmel returning as the host of the Oscars 2018. The ceremony will be taken on Sunday, March 4th, 2018. The Academy Awards are given by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) since 1929.

As you know, all Oscars Awards race starts with Governors Awards that this year has been set for next Saturday, November 11th, 2017 and the Oscar Nominations Announcement will be on January 23rd, 2018.
